Cookie policy

This page explains which cookies and similar tools the site uses, what they are for and how you can manage them, in line with Art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code (Legislative Decree 196/2003) and the Italian Data Protection Authority’s guidelines of 10 June 2021.
1. What cookies and similar tools are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar tools, such as localStorage, let a site store information on your device in a comparable way. Technical tools, which the site needs to work, do not require consent; optional ones, such as profiling and advertising cookies, would require it, and this site does not use them. Analytics cookies are treated like technical cookies, and so require no consent, when they meet the conditions set by the Italian Data Protection Authority: that is the case for the ones we use (section 4).
2. In short
- We do not use profiling or advertising cookies, nor third-party services that set them.
- We count visits with Matomo, installed on our own server: it uses three first-party analytics cookies, configured according to the Authority’s conditions.
- In your browser’s localStorage we only save the theme you chose and, if you make these choices, that you prefer simplified animations and that you do not want to be counted.
- That is why we do not ask for your consent and show no banner. You can still opt out of the statistics at any time (section 4).
3. Technical tools
They do not require consent and stay on your device: they are not sent to us.

4. Analytics cookies (Matomo)
Matomo is installed on our own server (analytics.guidemyvisit.com) and sets the cookies below, which are first-party and tied to this site’s domain. In the names, the asterisk stands for the site number in Matomo and a short code for the domain, for example _pk_id.1.a1b2.
We use them without consent because they meet the conditions of the Authority’s guidelines: they serve only aggregate statistics on this site, they do not tell us who you are, the IP address is anonymised before it is recorded and the data is neither combined with other data nor passed on to third parties. What we collect and why is explained in the privacy policy.
With the switch at the end of this section you can exclude your visits: Matomo’s cookies are deleted immediately and from then on the browser sends it nothing.

Your visits count towards the site’s aggregate statistics.
5. Third-party services
OpenFreeMap maps, used in the navigation demos, are downloaded directly by your browser like ordinary images and data: the OpenFreeMap server receives your IP address, but the site does not ask it to store anything on your device.
6. Deleting stored data
You can delete the data stored by the site at any time from your browser settings: the theme will follow the time of day again, full animations will come back and Matomo will create new cookies on your next visit. To stop being counted, use the switch in section 4: deleting or blocking cookies is not enough, because Matomo would keep counting visits, just without cookies.
